Q:
What are my computer requirements for this
application to work?
A: The minimum
hardware and software requirements are as follows:
-
Pentium II-266
processor or higher with 64 MB RAM or higher
-
Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000,
Windows NT 4, or Windows XP
-
Internet Explorer. Also Mozilla Firefox, Netscape and most other Web Browsers via manual configuration.
-
Outlook Express. Also most other Email clients via manual configuration.
-
Any dial-up Internet Service or DSL-Lite.
If you will Not be able to use our accelerator then go to the 'Software' link on our home page for alternative solutions.
To accelerate other Email software (such as IncrediMail or Eudora): you will first need to activate Outlook Express email acceleration
(see below for help) then manually copy the Server and Port settings from Outlook Express to your alternate Email software.
Although, we cannot provide Technical Support for any Email software other than Outlook Express.
Q:
Is this just a modem and registry tweaking
application that supposedly improves my Internet speed?
A: Absolutely
not. It uses a truly unique method of compressing the
data you request before it is sent over the phone lines to your
computer. This service is Not just another utility that
adjusts Windows registry settings for optimal network
performance (though if you want a settings optimizer too then see the 'Software' link on our home page).
Q:
How does this acceleration application
work?
A: As you
request pages from the web or email from your mail server, the data
is first routed to a compression server where it is quickly and
automatically reduced in size. Once compressed, a lot more
data can be sent over traditional wired (and wireless) telephone
lines. When the information is received at your computer, it
is automatically decompressed. Web pages and email messages
appear as normal in either your web browser or email
application. If you're familiar with the concept of Zip
compressed files, this is a good way to explain what is going
on. However the zipping and unzipping process is behind the
scenes and requires nothing of you to view web pages or email.
Just to be clear, the proprietary compression used with this service
is even better than the standard Zip format, which means
superior acceleration.
Q: How
will I connect to your compression servers?
A: Assuming
that you use us as your dial-up Internet Service Provider, you will
still connect to the Internet as you normally do. Once
connected, you will access the compression
servers directly. Optionally, if you access the Internet
through an alternate ISP, you can still access the compression servers via the Internet. Regardless
of how you access the compression servers, you will need to have a
valid User Name and Password. This is
selected during the Getting Started process prior to downloading this service.
Q:
Does your server track my browsing habits?
A: No!
We have no way of knowing (or desire to know) the
browsing habits of individual users of our acceleration
service. The only information that we log is overall server
performance to make sure that everyone is receiving optimal
acceleration service.
Q:
Will
additional advertisements and promotional marketing interrupt my
browsing?
A: No!
No additional forms of pop-up ads, banner ads or other types of promotional
marketing will interrupt your browsing, other than what you
would normally see while surfing the internet.
Helpful Tip: To forever rid yourself of pop-up ads,
go to our home page, click on 'Free Software Links', then download and install
'Pop-Up Stopper' and 'AdAware' (always update and re-run AdAware after installing questionable software).
Q:
I want Email acceleration too. How do I turn it On?
A:
Outlook Express Email Acceleration is turned Off at
first, and you must turn it On by following these
steps: After installing our software, go to the
new icon in the lower right corner
(satellite picture), right-click on this
icon, go into Settings, check the boxes for Email and Newsgroups acceleration.
Q:
Will this service work on
Macintosh/Apple or other operating systems?
A: Not at this
time. Currently, only the Microsoft operating systems are
supported.
Q:
Will I need an Accelerator ID to
receive this acceleration service?
A: Yes.
During the Installation process, you will be prompted for an Accelerator ID.
This will be necessary when installing and using this
service to connect to the compression servers.
This information will only need to be entered one time.
If you forget them after Subscribing then visit our Account Manager link on our Home Page to see it again.
Q: Can
I use this service in a networked environment?
A: This service
was designed to be used in an environment where access
to the Internet is achieved via a telephone dial-up connection (not
a high speed LAN). If you currently use Microsoft's modem
sharing in a simple home networked environment, simply install this service
on each computer that you want to achieve
Internet acceleration. Currently, this application is not
designed to work in a network environment which relies on a HTTP
Proxy. However, standard Windows modem sharing should allow it
to function normally.
Q: Will
this service speed up the downloading of FTP files or
NNTP newsgroups?
A:
This service currently accelerates HTTP (web pages), FTP (some files), SMTP/POP3
(Email), and NNTP (newsgroups). various other types of Internet
protocols are not supported at this time. However, we hope to
include support for them in future releases of this service.
Q:
What if I don't want to continue to
the trial of this service or choose not to order this
service?
A: There is a
standard uninstall procedure that will automatically remove the
service from your computer if you decide you no longer want
it. Instructions are located in the integrated help file to
walk you through the uninstall process.
Q:
If, after ordering this service,
I decide to discontinue, how do I do that?
A: Simply
uninstall the service as outlined in the previous question and
then go to our Account Manager link on our Home Page, sign in, and UnSubscribe to
cancel this service. We will
adjust our billing so that you are no longer charged for this
service.
