2019 Time for reflection & reform

The much publicised, Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety commenced last Friday, with a preliminary hearing about the operation of the Royal Commission. The first Adelaide hearings of the Royal Commission will commence next month, and will hear about key features of the aged care, quality, safety and complaints system; how that system works in practice and at a general level.

Australian’s enjoy one of the longest life expectancies in the world.  According to the Australian Institute of Health & Welfare, the proportion of Australians aged 65+ is predicted to rise from 13% (2017) to 22% (2057), which equates to over 8 million persons ¹. Similarly, for New Zealand by 2032, it is expected that 20–22 percent of New Zealanders will be aged 65+. By 2050, this proportion is expected to reach 21–27 percent ².

While the Royal Commission offers a voice to families who feel that by sharing their stories they can guide reform and change, it will also serve as a generational opportunity for business, government and communities to band together to investigate, explore and learn how we can together better support an aged care system, that will continue to feel the pressure of an aging population. It’s a network that will one day support a parent, partner or oneself. We are all affected.

iPRO partners with health & aged care providers by assisting in the management of third-party contractor compliance. We independently verify and report on contractor compliance, so providers have greater confidence in the quality of third parties engaged on-site. We’re going to keep a close eye on the lessons and findings from the Royal Commission, with the final report due 2020. We’ll use this opportunity to work more closely with our partners to help create and support the best aged care services, as a community we can all be proud of.

You can follow the findings and media releases from the Royal Commission at
